A woman was charged with operating under the influence after her car veered into a ditch and struck a utility pole on Gordon Hill Road April 9.

According to Waldo County Chief Deputy Bob Keating, Sara L. Boutaugh, 31, of Troy was looking at her cell phone when her 2007 Ford Focus drifted off the side of the road and into the utility pole. Keating said Boutaugh admitted she had been drinking prior to driving. Boutaugh was not injured.

The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash this week, and the costs of the damage to the car and the utility pole were not known as of April 12.

Lt. Jason Trundy and Deputy Gerry Lincoln responded to the accident, which was reported around 10:50 a.m.
