The fifth annual state-wide Maine Photography Show will open to the public Saturday, April 17 to run through Saturday, May 8. The Boothbay Region Art Foundation Gallery, 1 Townsend Ave., will be open Fridays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The show’s jurist is John Paul Caponnigro of Cushing, an artist, photographer, author, educator and nationally respected authority on creativity in photography and fine digital printing. The photography has been viewed and juried; the works that will be given awards have been chosen; and the gallery has been spruced up for its first major exhibition of 2010.

“Soon the award winners will be announced. The only thing that would be left is for you to see it all,” said LeeAnn LeFleur, MPS chairwoman.

One hundred and one photographs have been selected from a record-breaking 756 entries from 294 Maine photographers. The four categories are Color, Black&White, Student (18 and younger) and, new this year, Water, in any of its forms. The Maine Photography Show is produced and presented by the MPS Committee of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.

Midcoast participants in this year’s show include Richard Barnett of Thomaston; Roberta Baumann Gardullo and Mike Czosnek of South Thomaston; Catherine LeRoy, Stephen Decato and Eric Galant of Rockland; Richard Chalmers, Ronald Hart, Mark Haskell, Lisa Holt, Robert Merrill and Jim Nickelson of Camden; Charles Laurier Dufour of Belfast; Maurice Klapfish of Tenants Harbor; Liza Schiltz of Lincolnville; and Ni Rong of Rockport.
