Robert L. Tufts, 75, died April 11, 2010, in Bangor.

He was born in Lewiston July 5, 1934, a son of Edith Tufts. Bob graduated from Kingfield High School. and Farmington State Teachers College.

He served in the Army Signal Corps. He taught school locally for 30 years, starting in Liberty and finishing at Searsport High School, where he coached boys’ basketball, baseball and golf. He also served as athletic director for the district. He coached state championship teams in both basketball and baseball with Searsport.

Bob was a very active 40-year member of the Searsport Lions Club. He also served two terms in the Maine House of Representatives. He loved hunting, golf, the flea market and spending time at hunting camp. Bob was also a lifetime member of the NRA. He will be missed by many.

He was predeceased by his grandmother who raised him, Eunice Tufts.

Survivors include his ex-wife and companion of 50 years, Judy Tufts; three children, Roland and Susan Tufts of Topsham, Julie Tufts and her fiancée, Kerry Karst, of Brewer and Tom Tufts of Frankfort; two half-brothers, Richard Nile of Wilton and James Nile of North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, where services will be held at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Searsport Lions Club, Prospect Street.
