Just because it is early in high school spring practice does not mean student-athletes are not giving their all with the regular season still a few weeks away. A perfect example of that occurred April 5 at Walsh Field in Belfast, where the Lion softball team held practice. Here, infielders Hayley Rae. front, and Victoria Overlock collide as they attempt to bring in a pop-up. Rae, who was playing shortstop, held onto the ball. “I was just thinking the ball was coming my way and I should go for it even though [Victoria] was saying she’s got it,” said Rae. “That would have been bad if we’d both backed off from it so I decided to go for it.” Overlock agreed, adding that the wind held up the ball, which added to the confusion on the play. “Luckily, she still caught it,” Overlock said.
