Dorothy (Huard) Thompson, 85, died April 17, 2010, in Bangor.

She was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Waterville, a daughter of Charles and Clara (Caron) Huard. Growing up she spent part of her childhood living at the Nordica Homestead in Starks.

She married Hugh A. Thompson Feb. 22, 1942, in Morrill. Dorothy worked with her husband in the woods and helped him build their home in Waldo. She also worked at Penobscot Poultry in Belfast. She was a member of the Frederick Richie Grange for many years. She also enjoyed knitting, watching TV and small animals.

Her children remember growing up with squirrels, chipmunks, mynah birds and the house full of small animals that their mother kept. Dorothy loved her family picnics, birthday parties and get-togethers with the whole family. She was cared for in her later years by her grandson Gordon.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 53 years; and a son, Raymond, in 1972.

Dorothy is survived by three loving children, Elaine Thompson and her significant other, Monty Davis, of Palermo, Zebedee Thompson and his significant other, Kim, of Belfast, and Nellie Eckland and her husband, Louis, of Alabama; seven grandchildren Rose, Ray Jr., Billy, Gordon, Tammeeker, Tisharkar and Jewell; 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; also her Pomeranians, Tinkerbelle and Geegee, and her many cats.

Visiting hours will be Monday. April 26, from 10-11 a.m. at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be private at Morrill Village Cemetery.
