A warm sun shone on Walsh Field Tuesday to greet members of the Swanville Angels and Belfast Indians and their fans during Tuesday’s Belfast-Northport-Swanville Little League baseball season-opening game.

The Indians took an 11-7 victory despite the Angels comeback in the later stages of the game.

About 100 people, including the young ballplayers, attended the game to cheer on their teams and the start of the new season.

Belfast Police Officer Wendall Ward was scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch of the game, but, in an unusual turn of events, Ward was called to duty at the time of the game. Instead, Patrolman Rick Smith of the Belfast Police Department, father of Ricky Smith of the Angels, threw the ceremonial pitch later in the game.
