Charles Laurier Dufour, photographer and owner of Belfast’s Gallerie Dufour, won both the Black & White category and Best of Show in the fifth annual state-wide Maine Photography Show. The 2010 MPS was curated by John Paul Caponigro of Cushing, an artist, photographer, author, educator and nationally respected authority on creativity in photography and fine digital printing.

The show runs through Saturday, May 8 at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation Gallery, 1 Townsend Ave. It is open Fridays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free.

One hundred and one photographs were selected from a record-breaking 756 entries from 294 Maine photographers. The four categories are Color, Black & White, Student (18 and younger) and, new this year, a “Water” theme category.

Other Midcoast participants in this year’s show include Richard Barnett of Thomaston; Roberta Baumann Gardullo and Mike Czosnek of South Thomaston; Catherine LeRoy, Stephen Decato and Eric Galant of Rockland; Richard Chalmers, Ronald Hart, Mark Haskell, Lisa Holt, Robert Merrill and Jim Nickelson of Camden; Maurice Klapfish of Tenants Harbor; Liza Schiltz of Lincolnville; Robert Merrill; Camden; and Ni Rong of Rockport.

The Maine Photography Show is produced and presented by the MPS Committee of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation. School groups are welcome and should call 633-2703 in advance to be directed to bus parking.
