Lane Fisher, owner of Waggle Tails, LLC in Belfast, has earned the designation of Certified Pet Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed. She is the only trainer offering group classes in the Penobscot Bay region to have done so.

On March 25, Fisher took a 250-question examination by the Certification Council of Pet Dog Trainers, answering 94 percent of the questions correctly. The voluntary certification process, open only to experienced trainers, assesses knowledge in all facets of the dog training profession, including canine ethology, the science of learning theory, animal husbandry, classroom management and technique, and more.

In order to maintain certification, trainers must complete 36 hours of continuing education every three years. “That’s the fun part,” said Fisher. She has learned directly from numerous behaviorists and master trainers, including Ian Dunbar, Jean Donaldson and Patricia McConnell.

Fisher offers group classes and private instruction on the Blue Hill peninsula, as well as in Belfast. For information, call 338-1123 or e-mail waggletails@gwi.net. Her Web site, waggletailsobedience.com, is under construction and will contain free training articles and excellent links, she said.
