High school girls tennis squads across the Midcoast opened their seasons to a mixed bag of results Monday. Talented Camden Hills shut out Rockland, while Belfast grabbed a decisive victory over Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield. Finally, Georges Valley and Medomak Vally lost to Wiscasset and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, respectively.

The results from Monday’s matches were:

Camden Hills 5, Rockland 0 … At Rockport, second doubles was the first match to come off the court Monday as the talented Windjammers rolled past the Tigers. Windjammers Camilla Walker and Christine Forcillo earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rockland’s Sarah Henry and Taylor Stevens.

The second win for Camden Hills came at first doubles as Kayla Hart and Erika Alex played solid tennis to rally to a 6-1, 6-1 vicory over Tigers Chelsey Hawksley and Nayra Goncalves. “With their leadership roles in the Windjammers’ starting lineup this season, Hart and Alex proved their skill by keeping the pace consistently high in their match and playing their own game with focus and control,” said Camden Hills coach Karen Brace.

In singles competition, Windjammer Jessie Mathews stepped in at No. 3 to cover for fellow captain Julia Kosowsky, who had been out of the country. Mathews held the match in her favor from the start, defeating consistent hitter Jenny Herbert, 6-1, 6-0.

At second singles, Windjammer Carissa English beat Rockland’s Haley Wotton, 6-0, 6-0. Coach Brace called Wotton “a hard hitter with a powerful serve,” but added, “Carissa moved the ball easily and placed successfully, maintaining her pace and making very few errors throughout her match.”

At first singles, Windjammer Emma Blakeley “combined her accuracy with solid power to rally” to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tiger Allie Curtis.

In exhibition matches, Camden Hills’ Sophie Salas defeated Allison Ward, 8-5; Windjammers Aylin Orhon and Leah Davis lost 4-8 to Natasha Seavey and Chelsea Bedard; and Camden Hills’ Emma Conover and MC Parks defeated Cat Grotton and Phoebe Ferraiolo, 8-6.

Belfast 5, Maine Central Institute 0At Pittsfield, the individual results, with Lions first, were: In singles, Shashanna Moll defeated Patcharapak Vidhayasarana, 6-0, 6-0; Rosie LaCivita defeated Tina Trang, 6-0, 6-2; and Sierra Ventura defeated Lynn Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Renna Smith and Ashton Fancy defeated Sam Bartlett and Jenn Orchard, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1; and Camden Crosby and Jane Ouillette beat Tessa Hathaway and Tuyen Tran, 6-3, 6-1.

Wiscasset 4, Georges Valley 1 … At Thomaston, the individual results, with Bucs listed first, were: In singles, Emma Vachon lost to Ali Preble, 0-10; Adriana Lombardo lost to Lexi Tischbein, 6-10; and Amber Weaver lost to Abby Foster, 3-10.

In doubles, Chelsey Philbrook and Lindsey Joyce lost to Ashley Wunbowes and Margaret West, 6-10; and Casey Waters and Brianna Bodman defeated Joanna Verney and Abby Moody, 10-2.

Lincoln Academy 3, Medomak Valley 2 … At Waldoboro, the individual results, with Panthers listed first, were: In singles, Kelly Leidenroth defeated Katie Williams, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1; Skylar Carroll defeated Sara Balch, 2-6, 8-6, 6-3; and Hayley Turner lost to Carly Erskine, 1-6, 4-6.

In doubles, Lindsay Oldroyd and Kaye Peabody lost to Ashlee Hartford and Kelsey Leeman, 4-6, 2-6; and Mallory Robbins and Ariele Rancourt lost to Sophie D‘anieri and Jessica Ford, 2-6, 2-6.
