The Friends of Fort Knox has created a new position within the organization to increase general membership, business partnerships and event sponsors. The new position is membership development coordinator and is to be filled by Maureen Harris of Blue Hill.

Harris is the former executive director of the Bucksport Chamber of Commerce and has a long history of real estate management and community service work.

Friends of Fort Knox Executive Director Leon Seymour said, “The Friends are excited to have Maureen working with us to expand our membership base throughout the region.” Seymour said that the Fort Knox historic site and Penobscot Narrows Observatory had a regional appeal and that Harris would be seeking to developt membership from Camden to Bar Harbor and to Bangor.

“The Friends of Fort Knox hope that the community will respond well to our outreach efforts and help us continue to preserve and enhance Fort Knox”, Seymour added.

The Friends of Fort Knox’s mission is to preserve Fort Knox and enhance its educational, cultural and economic value for the people of Maine. The Friends’ current restoration effort has been focused on extensive masonry work throughout the Fort. The Friends work in partnership with the Maine Department of Conservation’s Bureau of Parks and Lands, which owns and manages Fort Knox on behalf of the people of Maine.
