In two of only a handful of games that took place Wednesday afternoon with cancellations running rampant throughout the Midcoast due to wet conditions, the Mount View baseball and softball squads traveled to Newcastle to take on Lincoln Academy.

The outcomes were less than favorable for the Mustangs of Thorndike, as both the baseball and softball teams were blanked in five-inning contests.

Baseball

At Newcastle, the Eagles (2-1) pounced on the Mustangs (0-3) early and often as they earned a convincing 18-0 win.

Adam Higgins, Aaron Elkins, Zach Babin and Kaleb Cook all took the hill for the ‘Stangs, allowing 14 hits, 11 walks and two hit batters, with two strikeouts. Daulton Leeman and Nathaniel Baptist pitched for the Eagles, allowing a combined five hits and two walks, with eight punchouts.

Alec Davis had two singles to lead Mount View, while Zach Babin, Jalen Babin and Bobby Porter each had a base hit in the loss.

Steve Quinlan (home run, single), Mardy Allen (4 singles) and Jeff Lamb (3 singles) led the Eagles. Quinlan led the bottom of the first inning with a home run to right field.

Softball

The Mustangs (0-3) were no match for the Eagles, who rolled to a 13-0, five-inning win. Additional information will be added to this story when it becomes available.
