Thursday proved to be a good day on the diamond for the Searsport and Belfast baseball teams, both of whom grabbed solid home wins over Bangor Christian and Maranacook of Readfield, respectively.

The Belfast contest originally was scheduled for Wednesday, but postponed due to inclement weather. The Vikings originally were scheduled to play Thursday.

Searsport 8, Bangor Christian 1 … At Searsport, the Vikings (3-1) defeated Bangor Christian (1-3). Searsport had nine hits and one error, while Bangor Christian had five hits and four errors.

Allen Connor pitched for the Vikings and allowed five hits and a walk, with 11 strikeouts. A. Harvey took the mound for Bangor Christian and gave up nine hits and four walks, with two strikeouts.

Evan Kingsbury led Searsport with three singles, an RBI and a run. Shane Seekins (2 doubles, run), Josiah Brazier (2 runs), Buddy Ellis (run), Rocky Faunce (run), Connor (run) and Charlie Larrabee (run) also contributed offensively to the victory.

Harvey led Bangor Christian with two singles. B. Bragg scored the lone run and Tyler Alexander smacked a double.

Belfast 3, Maranacook 0 … The host Lions (3-0) blanked the Black Bears (1-2) to continue their undefeated start to the new season.

Lion pitcher Mike Berry allowed six hits and two walks, with seven strikeouts.
Maranacook had two errors and Belfast one error and five hits.

In the second inning, when Belfast scored two runs, Eric Peters ripped an RBI-single and another run scored on a balk. Cote Ward also had a run and Matt Steinort a single in the inning.

Keegan Ballard cracked a double for Maranacook.
