Northport Music Theater will hold two summer camps this summer for Midcoast students with an interest in the performing arts of singing, acting and dancing.

Camp director for the July camp for students age 12 through 19 is Kimberly Murphy of Lincolnville, choral and musical theater director of Camden Regional Hills High School, who has directed the NMT camps since 2008. This summer’s show will be “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin. The two-week July camp will run July 12 through 16 and 19 through 23 and is held daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Four public performances will be offered Friday through Sunday, July 23, 24 and 25.

Although “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is an ensemble show and all campers will be cast, there is a limited number of featured solos. Auditions for these parts for interested campers who have completed registration will be held at NMT Tuesday, May 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Auditioners should bring a prepared solo; an accompanist will be provided.

The camp show for students age 8-11 will be Disney’s “Mulan Junior,” directed by Abi Norman held during the week of Aug. 16 through 20. Camp is held daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes two performances on Saturday, Aug. 21. Norman, a 2009 Searsport District High School grad, has directed musical theater camps in Searsport for the past three summers and has been an NMT staff member since 2007. She is a theater major at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y.
