The eighth annual Festival of Arts will open Thursday night, May 13 with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center of the University of Maine, Route 3. The non-juried exhibition features work by 153 artists, amateur and professional, age 50 and older.

The festival hours Friday, May 14 are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., followed by a concert by Steel Rail Express from 7 to 9 p.m. Artists’ bios and work and a photography slide show will run all day in the auditorium. Demos will be: Jamie Oates, pottery, noon to 2 p.m.; Lin Calista, matting and framing one’s work, 2 to 4 p.m.; and Judith Fischer, oil painting, 4 to 6 p.m.

Show hours Saturday, May 15 will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a RSU 20 children’s art reception in the meeting room from 10 a.m. to noon. At 12:30 p.m., nationally renowned realist painter Linden Frederick will speak about his “20 Years of Painting Belfast.”

Hours the final day of the Festival of Art, Sunday, May 16 will be noon to 3 p.m. Admission to the entire festival is free.
