Tennis courts around the area have seen considerable action over the past week as local squads compete for top spots in their regions.

On Friday, Camden Hills took on Belfast and won both matches.

The Georges Valley girls and the Medomak Valley boys were not so lucky as they lost their matches against Lisbon and Waterville respectively in recent days. However, the Rockland girls notched their first victory of the season Friday.

Camden Hills 4, Belfast 1 … At Rockport Friday, the Windjammers (5-0) sailed past the Lions (3-2) as the hosts only lost one singles match.

The individual results, with ‘Jammers listed first, were: In singles, Carissa English defeated Shashannah Moll, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker); Emma Blakeley beat Rosie LaCivita, 6-2, 6-0; and Julia Kosowski lost to Sierra Ventura, 3-6, 6-7 (7-5 tiebreaker).

In doubles, Jessie Mathews and Kayla Hart defeated Renna Smith and Ashton Fancy, 6-2, 6-2; and Erika Alex and Jamie Burgess beat Camden Crosby and Jane Ouillette, 6-0, 6-4.

Two freshmen battled in the number one singles match that ended in a third set tiebreaker. “Their match was high quality and exciting throughout with both players giving their all to each point and Camden Hills edging out the victory,” said Camden Hills coach Karen Brace.

The added that, with another tiebreaker, the third singles match was also a close affair. “For a while it looked as if it could go either way until Belfast pulled out the win with steady and consistent play,” she said.

Overall, Brace was pleased with her team’s effort and its level of play. “Every player knew they’d given their best effort and left it all on the court today in a full team rally to the finish,” she said.

Rockland 5, Maine Central Institute 0 … At Rockland Friday, the Tigers (1-4) notched a victory. The individual results, with Tigers listed first, were: In singles Allie Curits defeated Patcharapha Vidhayosarana, 6-0, 6-1; Haley Wotton beat Lynn Nguyen, 6-2, 6-2; and Jenny Herbert defeated Tessa Hathaway, 7-6, 6-3.

In doubles, Nayra Goncalves and Allison Ward defeated Jenn Orchard and Sam Bartlett, 6-1, 6-0; and Natasha Seavey and Chelsea Hawksley defeated Fiona Shan and Emily Fung, 6-1, 6-0.

Both Tiger exhibition teams also won their eight-game pro sets 8-2 and 8-5.

Lisbon 3, Georges Valley 2 … At Tenants Harbor May 5, the Buccaneers (0-5) nearly took out their guests through doubles wins, but fell short in singles. The individual results, with Bucs listed first, were: In singles, Emma Vachon lost to Sara Geraldo, 1-10; Meredith Joyce lost to Cassie McManus, 1-10; and Adriana Lombardo lost to Nicole Gardiner, 8-10.

In doubles, Chelsea Philbrook and Amber Weaver defeated Megan Craig and Cheyenne Cameron, 10-9; and Kasie Waters and Brianna Bodman defeated Jamie Thibault and Holly Hogan, 10-1.

Waterville 5, Medomak Valley 0…  On Friday, Individual results, with Waterville listed first, were: In singles, Jen Nale defeated Kelly Leidenroth, 6-0, 6-0; Sarah Walker defeated Skylar Carroll, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6; and Lexi Russo defeated Isabelle Lobley, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Nikki Shanos and Alexa Olivera defeated Hannah Vail and Suzanne Rourke, 6-2, 6-4; and Grave Violette and Lauren Hallenbeck, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.



Camden Hills 4, Belfast, 1 … At Belfast Friday, Camden Hills (4-1) defeated Belfast (2-2). The individual results, with Windjammers listed first, were: In singles, Will Vlautin defeated Ondrej Slama, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8; Pierre Haugen beat Carson Beck, 6-2, 6-4; and Casey Scott lost to Cassidy Alex, 6-4, 4-6, 4-10.

In doubles, Evan Drinkwater and John Vannorsdall defeated Jimmy Nealey and Nelson Maldanado, 6-0, 6-0; and Tom Young and Andrew Beauchesne defeated Taylor Peabody and Wes Sterrs, 6-1, 6-0.

Maine Central Institute 3, Rockland 2 … At Pittsfield Friday, the Tigers (0-5) played a close match, but could not keep up in a loss to the Huskies of Pittsfield by a close margin. The individual results, with Rockland listed first, were: In singles, Ian Ellis defeated Willibur Chu, 8-2; Kotaro Tanaguchi lost to Vu Hoang 8-4; and Christian Kirchner lost to Danny Van, 8-1.

In doubles, Conor Pfister and Kyle Fowlie defeated Krit Rujiralai and Johan Han, 8-1; and Alix Peabody and Vin Nguyen lost to Cody Hodgins and Mike Hwang, 8-2.

Waterville 5, Medomak Valley 0 … At Waterville Friday, the visiting Panthers (0-5) lost to their purple counterparts in a shutout match. The individual results, with Waterville listed first, were: In singles, Cam Mitchell defeated Alden Ahlholm, 6-1, 6-1; Marcus Godin defeated Zach Judkins, 6-1, 6-2; and Callum Thomas defeated Chris Morrill, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles, Nico Schultz and Jimmy Lavin defeated Frank Burgess and Nick Young, 6-0, 6-1; and Ben Roy and David Cook won by forfeit over Medomak Valley.
