Add some pizazz to your garden this year by picking up something new at The Belfast Garden Club’s annual Green Thumb Plant Sale Saturday, May 15, 9-11 a.m., at The Belfast Boathouse, 34 Commercial St.

In addition to annuals, perennials, veggies, herbs and vines, the sale will feature gardening gloves, natural (no DEET) deer tick and mosquito repellent (not available in local stores), and gardening-related white elephant items. For the first time, this year’s sale will also feature onion and leek starts from Dixondale Farms in Texas.

Other plants for sale have been dug from local gardens and donated by Midcoast nurseries; Aubuchon, EBS, Evergreen Valley Farm, Fernwood Nursery, Heirloom Gardens, Hidden Gardens, Holmes Nursery, Ledgewood Gardens and Greenhouses, Plants Unlimited and organic plants from Roots & Shoots.

Proceeds from the annual sale benefit Belfast Garden Club activities in the community and the club’s scholarship fund for higher education relating to the goals of the club, which has been in operation since 1929. The club welcomes new members year-round.

The Garden Club can always use volunteers to help maintain the beautiful city gardens, you need not be a member or a pro to help. For more information on the plant sale or volunteer opportunities call Diane Allmayer-Beck at 338-3105 or visit belfastgardenclub.org.
