Susan E. Picinich, interim dean of the University of Southern Maine College of Arts and Sciences, has announced awards and scholarships presented to students from the Midcoast.

Jesse Wakeman, a 2007 grad of Belfast Area High School, has been chosen for the Music Honors Recital. This annual concert recognizes significant achievement in performance by students of the School of Music. Students are nominated by their faculty to audition and, from that pool of nominees, finalists are chosen by a music faculty committee.

Jaimie Galietta, a graduate of Georges Valley High School in Thomaston, has been awarded the Betty Atterbury Award. This award is given to a music education major selected by the music faculty. The recipient must show great promise as a teacher and be on track to graduate the following academic year.

Stephen P. Walsh, a graduate of Rockland District High School, has been awarded the Department of Art Student Discipline Awards for painting. The Department of Art recognizes outstanding student artists for their academic achievements in the visual arts.
