Parents are invited to treat themselves to an evening of laughter, coffee, tea and desserts Wednesday, June 2 at First Light Midwifery, 137 High St.

First Light Midwifery will host Nicole Chaison, author of graphic novel “The Passion of the Hausfrau,” in this event for mothers and fathers who recognize their role in the epic comedy of raising children while trying to hold onto a sense of self.

Chaison chronicles the chaotic, hilarious and redemptive odyssey that is parenting in her self-published quarterly Hausfrau Muthah-zine, which has generated a cult following among the lactating and radically sleep-deprived. Chaison wrote the James Beard Award-nominated “Spice” with Chef Ana Sortun, and her stories and comics have appeared in a variety of periodicals and the collection “Forty Things to Do When You Turn Forty.” A one-woman show based on her stories opened in March 2009 at Portland Stage Company. She lives in Portland with her husband and two children.
