Betts Gallery at The Belfast Framer will host a reception for Searsport artist Gus Szabronski Friday, June 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. The reception will celebrate the opening of Szabronski’s first solo exhibit, “It’s All About Wood.”

Szabronski has been working with wood, both old and new, for many years. He hand-crafts beautiful hardwoods into furniture, marquetry, turnings and wall pieces. He feels there is a definite life in the wood, even though it may have been cut months or years ago.

“Sometimes a project just feels right and I go with the flow; other times the wood will tell me what is right,” he said.

Many of his favorite pieces are made with wood that has been discarded due to defects that other people may find unacceptable, but these defects can make a piece absolutely beautiful.

The show will run Friday, June 4 through the 26. The Belfast Framer, 96 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 338-6465 or visit thebelfastframer.com.
