Competing in the Penobcot Valley Conference small school track-and-field championships Saturday at Foxcroft Academy certainly brought out the best in a handful of Searsport student-athletes as the Vikings enjoyed stellar performances and even a school record-breaking effort.

Among the highlights from the league meet were Sara Bradshaw bringing home first-place honors in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 96 feet and 11 inches and Faith Mackey finishing third in the 800 meters with a school record time of 2:29.82 (the old mark was set in 1988).

The girls team scores were: John Bapst of Bangor 196, Orono 108, Central of East Corinth 57.5, Fort Kent 31, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 28.5, Foxcroft Academy 28, Bucksport 27, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln 24, Searsport 19, Washington Academy of East Machias 18, Bangor Christian 12, Piscataquis of Guilford 10, Dexter 9, Penquis Valley of Milo 8, Stearns of Millinocket 6, Schenck of East Millinocket and Summer of East Sullivan no score.

The boys team scores were: Orono 106, John Bapst 81, Bucksport 79, George Stevens Academy 66, Dexter 58, Central 46, Mattanawcook Academy 40, Schenck 28, Foxcroft Academy 24, Fort Kent 15, Penquis Valley 12, Piscataquis 11, Bangor Christian 7, Sumner  7 and Searsport, Stearns and Washington Academy no score.

The individual Viking girls results were:

800 meters — 3, Mackey, 2:29.83 (school record, less than a second separated the top three runners).

3,200 meters — 6, Mackey, 13:03.35.

Javelin — 1, Bradshaw, 96-11.

Discus — 8, Bradshaw, 71-3.

Shot put — 6, Bradshaw, 26-2.5.

Pole vault — 6, Lauralee Stairs, 6-0.

The individual Viking boy result was:

Javelin — 10, Broadley, 115-9.
