A bit of Hollywood excitement will light up Camden Monday, July 12, when the national premiere of the new TV show “Rizzoli & Isles” is simulcast on the big screen at the Camden Opera House, Elm Street/Route 1.

Based on characters from the crime novels written by local author Tess Gerritsen, “Rizzoli & Isles” stars Angie Harmon (“Law & Order”) as tough-talking Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli; Sasha Alexander (“NCIS”) as the ever-logical medical examiner Maura Isles; Billy Burke (“Twilight”) as FBI agent Gabriel Dean; Lorraine Bracco (“The Sopranos”) as Jane’s annoying but loving mother; and Bruce McGill (“McGyver”) as Jane’s former partner in the homicide unit. “Rizzoli & Isles” will air Mondays at 10 p.m. on TNT.

Gerritsen invites the community for the free Opening Night Event, which will start at 9:30 p.m. with her talking about the journey of her characters from written page to Hollywood. At 10 p.m., the simulcast airs live, commercials and all. Books will be available for purchase, and the author’s proceeds will be donated to Camden Public Library.

This event is free to the public, but tickets must be reserved in advance. To reserve seats, call 236-7963 or send e-mail to dmorrison@camdenmaine.gov; leave first and last name and how many people will be attending.

Street doors will open at 8:30 p.m. and opera house auditorium will open at 9 p.m. To get the evening off to a fun start, one may join Gerritsen at Natalie’s Restaurant for a pre-show cocktail party starting at 7:30 p.m. Partiers can sample the special “Jane” and “Maura” cocktails as they nibble sweet and savory bites and mingle with out-of-town guests who are flying in especially for the event.
