The private flute and voice students of Diana Brookes Brown will present a spring recital Monday, June 14 at 7 p.m. at the Belfast Academy of Music, 24 Church St.

The students will present classical music from several periods including works by Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Bizet, Janacek and Pinkham. In a lighter vein will be pieces by Gilbert and Sullivan and songs from “Chicago.”

Students range in age from 10 to 18 and hail from Belfast, Liberty, Monroe, Morrill and Northport. Participating students are Sarah Bowen, Katie Cloutier, Lille Gates and Clare Olson, voice; and Mary Kate Bickford, Amber Heath, Rachel Kahn, Elizabeth McAvoy, Justyne Newcomer, Skyler Olson and Paige Taylor, flute. They will be accompanied by pianist Deanna Sawtelle of Albion.

Brown has been teaching flute and voice privately for more than 40 years. A former public school music teacher and church choir director in Massachusetts, she has performed in churches and at recitals throughout the Midcoast and Down East area since her retirement to Maine in 1998. She currently teaches at the Belfast Academy of Music. She is a member of the Somerset Consort and the ensemble Harmoniemusik and resides in Stockton Springs with her composer husband, Richard E. Brown.
