A very special presence will grace Cellardoor Winery’s third annual Pop the Cork celebration this year. Grammy-nominated songstress Oleta Adams and her band will perform Thursday, June 17 at Harbor Park from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m.

Since the runaway success of her debut album “Circle of One,” and the impassioned hit single “Get Here” (which became the unofficial anthem of the Gulf War), Adams has inspired an ever-growing legion of fans in the United States and abroad. She takes them on journeys of the heart via songs that draw deeply from her roots in gospel while crossing effortlessly into soul, R&B, urban, jazz and popular music. Adams’ successes include critical acclaim, multiple Grammy and Dove nominations and the release of eight albums with more than 2.5 million copies sold.

Pop the Cork offers a rare and wonderful opportunity as the stunning backdrop of the ocean will provide a breathtaking stage for this extraordinary performer.

Returning to the annual event will be madgirl eco-fashion designer Meredith Alex, creating another fusion of fashion, sculpture and performance art. Her madgirl installation will showcase two huge contemporary dresses that will appear as a flowing extension of the actual tent. The dresses are white, purple and turquoise keeping with the color theme of the event and, blending with the musical theme, each dress will have a layer of trim on the side of black and white appliqués to represent a piano keyboard.

Madgirl’s installation also will include sculpture dresses that represent a sampling of all music genres including punk rock, classical and country music. Each dress and sculpture will be on Central Street, surrounded by green grass polka dots in trays with purple and white aslym flowers.

Alex, who recently relocated to Portland from Belfast, holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from California Institute of the Arts in performing arts, design and technology with a focus in costume design.
