A ribbon-cutting ceremony held June 22 marked the grand opening of a new J.C. Penney catalog center inside Belfast Office Supply & Services.

Terry St. Peter, owner of Belfast Office Supply as well as the new J.C. Penney catalog center — officially named “jcp.com | catalog center” — said he and his wife, co-owner Linda St. Peter, were excited to be able to provide this service to Belfast.

“We think there has been a real void in this town for interest in J.C. Penney,” St. Peter said. “A catalog center seemed to be the smart way to deal with it.”

On hand for the ceremony were members of the community, Belfast Mayor Walter Ash, Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Janet Dutson and J.C. Penney Direct Merchant Coordinator John Flaherty.

Flaherty said having the catalog center in Belfast meant there would be less hassle for customers who didn’t want to go to J.C. Penney’s retail center in Bangor. Some of the services available at the catalog center include catalog ordering, pickup of Internet and catalog purchases, exchanges and returns, and gift card purchases.

“It’s like bringing a department store with over 300,000 items to Belfast,” said Flaherty.

The new J.C. Penney catalog center, located inside Belfast Office Supply & Services at 17 Main St., is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
