Lloyd F. Roberts, 95, died Jan. 12, 2010.

He was born in Jackson March 26, 1914, and grew up on the family farm helping his father with the cows each morning and evening. There was no electricity in those days, so Lloyd and his father had to milk the cows by hand. The milk was then made into butter and cheese and sold locally in Waldo County.

Lloyd was the oldest of three children and had two siblings; a sister, Christine, and a brother, Edward. He lost his mother at an early age and mourned her death throughout his lifetime.

Lloyd attended Brooks High School and was an outstanding basketball player who helped lead the team to several tournaments. He had been a member of Anah Temple Shrine since June 1974 and of Blue Lodge 102.

He and his wife, Marion (Ross) Roberts, who predeceased him five years ago, lived all their lives in the Maine they dearly loved until moving to Florida in their senior years. He retired after more than 30 years with the Maine State Highway Commission and she retired from 30 years of teaching in the public schools in Colombia Falls, Brooks, Hermon and Brewer.

Lloyd is survived by two daughters, Ann Roberts Scheppach of Alexandria, Va., and Elaine Stevens of Weston, Fla.; three grandchildren and three-great grandchildren. He also is survived by a half-brother, Rexford Roberts, of Vermont; and a half-sister, Ruth Rollins, of Fairfield. We all miss him.
