A grand opening ceremony for the new Belfast McDonald’s restaurant at 282 Main St. was held June 9. Several local officials including Mayor Walter Ash, Town Manager Joe Slocum, and Chamber of Commerce Director Janet Dutson attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

McDonald’s Owners/Operators Linda and Doug Quagliaroli of Belfast presented a check for $1,000 to the RSU 20 elementary school library program. Librarians Sea Chauvin and Roxanna Morse accepted the donation that will be used to fund the purchase of all of the award-winning books honored with the Chickadee Award. The books will be distributed to all of the kindergarten through third-grade classrooms in the district.

The Quagliarolis also presented photo prints of historic downtown Belfast to City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce, and the school district. The photo, taken by Doug’s son, Doug Quagliaroli Jr., is a miniature of a wallpaper print hanging in the new Belfast McDonald’s restaurant.
