An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

Law enforcement officials with the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity between June 16 and June 22.

June 14 (late entry)
At about 3:15 p.m., Devan M. Skillings, 16, of Swanville was traveling East on Swanville Road in Frankfort. Skillings lost control of the 1998 Dodge four-door he was driving. He went off the side of the eastbound lane, over an embankment and hit a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle. Skillings told police he thought something broke in the steering. Winterport and Belfast emergency responders assisted Deputy Darrin Moody, who responded to the scene. Both Skillings and his passenger complained of shoulder pain and were taken to the hospital. Damage to the car Skillings was driving was estimated at $5,000.

June 15 (late entry)
Andrew J. Landry, 37, of Frankfort was summoned for an inspection sticker violation.

Douglas E. Adams, 27, of Albion was summoned for speeding 70 mph in a 50 mph zone on Route 137 in Knox.

Steven D. Cole, 50, of Burnham was summoned for operating after suspension.

June 16
Michael L. Cookson, 18, of Pittsfield was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking.

June 17
Larry C. Bennett, 68, of Waldo was arrested and charged with one count of domestic violence assault and one count of assault.

Angel J. Bernardo, 40, of Burnham was summoned for failing to register vehicle 30-150 days.

At about 10:05 a.m., Sharon K. Salmon, 59, of Liberty was driving her car out of the Hilltop Store parking lot on Route 137 in Knox. She was sitting at the end of the parking lot waiting for traffic prior to entering Route 137. Curtis F. Starrett, 57, of Appleton had just finished getting fuel and was backing up to leave the parking lot. Starrett did not see Salmon behind his vehicle and he hit Salmon’s car, breaking the hatchback and glass of her 2008 Toyota four-door. Damage to Salmon’s car was estimated at $1,633. No damage was reported on Starrett’s 2003 Ford two-axle, single-unit vehicle.

June 18
Shawn R. McAvoy, 18, of Prospect was summoned and charged with alteration of vehicle after inspection.

June 19
Kristi R. Jackson, 23, of Belfast was summoned for operating after suspension.

At about 7:28 p.m., Hiram N. Weitzman, 53, of Troy was driving on Reynolds Road in Troy, when he failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. His car rolled down an embankment before coming to rest on the driver’s side. There were no marks to indicate any evasive movement. Damage to Weitzman’s 2009 Subaru SUV was estimated at $4,000. No injuries were reported.

June 21
Jonathan K. Wargo, 19, of Prospect was summoned for speeding 61 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 174 in Prospect.

At about 11:10 a.m., Joseph B. Bowman, 41, of Freedom was driving a two-axle, dual-tire, single-unit vehicle on Webb Road in Knox. Bowman pulled up to a stop sign and decided to back up to park his vehicle on the side of the road. Bowman did not see Sadie C. Lloyd, 25, of Brooks in her 2002 Datsun SUV behind him. Lloyd said she continually honked her horn but Bowman did not hear it. Bowman backed into Lloyd’s car, causing an estimated $1883 damage to the radiator and front end. No one was injured in the accident.
