On Friday, July 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Belfast Art Walk, Roots & Tendrils will host an opening reception for “An Emic Review,” a collection of oil paintings by emerging artist Eric Darling.

“An Emic Review” is a series of black and white oil paintings that feature “Skullys,” protohuman characters captured in everyday scenes. Darling is a self-taught artist native to New Hampshire. He went west to earn a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology. Interests such as archaeology work, travel and teaching in Asia, as well as an overall appreciation for the natural world. are all evident in Darling’s work.

“An Emic Review” will be on display at Roots & Tendrils through Aug. 1. Roots & Tendrils is an arts venue located downtown at 2 Cross St., on the corner of Cross and Main. In addition to showcasing works by up and coming artists, Roots & Tendrils also features a variety of modern handmade items from Maine crafters and designers as well as a year-round calendar of live music events.
