Wanda J. (Batchelder) Martin, 58, died June 24, 2010.

She was born in Belmont March 24, 1952, the daughter of Warren and Marion (Gross) Batchelder. She was a member and held the title of Past Great Pocahontas. She was an avid volunteer for many organizations and benefit suppers. She worked in the Belfast school district for 18 years. Wanda was proud of her work for the area school district working as a bus driver and aide.

She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Douglas Batchelder; a nephew, Jonathan Batchelder; an aunt, Marie Jacobs; and her longtime partner, David “Chief” Nicholas.

Survivors include two children, Denise Murphy and her husband, Galen, of Warrenton, Va., and James Martin II and his wife, Natascia, of Belfast; five brothers, Rudolph Hamm and his wife, Veronica, of Morrill, Maurice Hamm and his wife, Delores, of Old Town, Robert Hamm and his wife, Joan, of Vermont, Ralph Hamm and his wife, Betty, of Bar Mills and Warren Batchelder and his partner, Elsie Geary, of Belfast; five grandchildren, Giulio, Elena, Francesco, Evelyn and Liam; several nieces and nephews and close niece Tammy Watts; and many special friends.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Grove Cemetery in Belfast with the Rev. David Pouchot officiating. To carpool to the cemetery, be at Belfast Area High School at 9:45 a.m. Friday morning.
