Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St., will present Matt and Shannon Heaton Thursday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The Boston-based husband-and-wife duo offer updated and traditional Irish music on flute, guitar, bouzouki and accordion; stirring traditional-style singing; and a fresh, appealing stage show.

Their 2009 CD “Lovers’ Well (songs of loss and love)” is their fourth as a duo. Musically speaking, the Heatons play the heck out of their instruments after years of study in Chicago, and many nights of music in Clare, Galway, and their adopted home of Boston. As for their singing, when Matt and Shannon perform centuries-old songs, they make traditional music relevant to American audiences.

Tickets are $10. For more information, call 948-7469 or visit unityme.org. Next up at Unity College Centre will be Cape Breton-style fiddler Colin Grant Thursday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. ($10).
