An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

Law enforcement officials with the Belfast Police Department reported the following activity between June 22 and June 29:

June 10 (late entry)
Ashley M. Dodd, 21, of Belfast was arrested charged with burglary, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and violating conditions of release. All of the alleged offenses took place May 20 at Huntress Gardens, according to the summons forms.

June 14 (late entry)
A Liberty woman escaped serious injury after she fell under a slowly moving vehicle in the parking lot at the Goodwill Store shortly after noon.

Harriet Oxton, 79, had reportedly been loading some items into a 2000 Ford van being driven by 88-year-old Linwood Oxton of Liberty and then went to get into the vehicle when she was finished with that work.

As she went to get in, however, the vehicle moved ahead, which caused Harriet Oxton to “fall and go partially under” the vehicle, according to the accident report. Linwood Oxton, the report notes, was able to stop the vehicle before Harriet Oxton sustained any serious injury. She did receive some bruises and abrasions on her legs, according to the report.

“The ambulance was called but [Harriet Oxton] did not need or wish to go to the hospital,” the report states.

Inattention and/or distraction on the part of Linwood Oxton was cited as the apparent cause of the incident.

June 16 (late entries)
No one was reported injured when one vehicle rear-ended another at the end of the off-ramp from Route 1 to Route 3 around 9:30 a.m.

Heinz M. Lear, 56, of Swanville was stopped at the end of the ramp in his 2006 Ford pickup truck when he pulled forward slightly to get a better view of oncoming traffic.

Behind him, in a 2002 Dodge van, 34-year-old Rapunzel L. Overlock of Freedom thought that Lear was pulling out in to traffic “and subsequently ran into the rear” of Lear’s vehicle.

Damage to Lear’s vehicle was estimated at $800 to the rear end, while damage to Overlock’s vehicle was estimated at $700 to the front end. Neither driver was injured, and the ambulance was not called. There were no passengers.

In another accident June 16, shortly after noon, no one was injured when two vehicles collided at the intersection of Starrett Drive and Lincolnville Avenue.

Florence Drew, 72, of Prospect was attempting to make a right turn from Starrett Drive onto Lincolnville Avenue in her 2006 four-door Ford. She apparently did not see a 1998 Dodge van being driven by 56-year-old Carrie L. Limeburner at Waterville, who was traveling on Lincolnville Avenue toward the Route 1 intersection.

Drew pulled into the path of Limeburner, according to the police report, and although Limeburner tried to avoid Drew’s vehicle, the two vehicles collided. The report notes that both drivers said a vehicle that had been in front of Limeburner and which had turned on to Starrett Drive may have blocked Drew’s view of Limeburner’s vehicle as it approached.

Neither driver was injured, nor were either of Limeburner’s two juvenile passengers.
