The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in collaboration with Mid Coast Mental Health, is sponsoring a free support group specifically for individuals diagnosed with a mental illness. The ongoing group will meet every Monday, beginning July 12, at Mid Coast Mental Health in Rockland.

The group will be led by trained local volunteers who live well with mental illness. The group provides a safe, confidential place to share stories about struggles and learn from others. For information, call Bunny, 236-6878. There is no charge; participants can start and stop at any time.

“These groups are helpful to people with mental illness,” said Carol Carothers, executive director of NAMI Maine, in a press release. “People meet with others experiencing similar issues and learn new strategies to handle daily challenges.”

Mid-Coast Mental Health, in Rockland and Belfast, provides a variety of mental health services for the Midcoast, including out-patient and substance abuse counseling, residential care and crisis services.
