The Senior League Babe Ruth campaign is heading to the home stretch and Waldo County is looking to make a late-season run.

Currently sitting at 2-5-1 in the standings on the heels of a 6-6 tie with Lisbon, Waldo County has four games remaining in the regular season before the state tournament kicks off July 16-18 in Rockport. Waldo County was to face Farmington July 6, travel to South China for a doubleheader Saturday, July 10 and wrap up the regular season Wednesday, July 14 in Rockport.

Waldo County is coached by Paul Thibodeau.

Waldo County defeated Lisbon 12-0 in the second game of a doubleheader June 27 and won its first game of the season June 16 8-5 against South China. Waldo County is 1-1-1 against Lisbon this season.

The following is a recap of the past four games for Waldo County’s Senior League Babe Ruth team:

At Lisbon July 2, Waldo County rallied from a 6-2 deficit in the late innings and was knotted after nine innings of play when the game was called due to darkness.

Top hitters for Waldo County were Eric Peters (triple, single), Nick Thibodeau (double, single, 4 stolen bases), Allen Connor (2 singles), Mike Berry (single), Josh Beal (single) and Winston Simmons (single).

Waldo County had the go-ahead run in scoring position in the ninth inning after a Peters triple when the locals attempted a suicide squeeze, which was thwarted by Lisbon.

Pelletier (2 singles) and Bennett (single, double) and Whitney (triple) led the hosts on offense.

Peters went seven innings on the hill for Waldo County, allowing six hits and two walks, with nine strikeouts. Berry went the final two frames, allowing one hit and striking out two. Alex Hall and Pelletier combined to scatter nine hits and no walks, while striking out 10 for Lisbon.

Also at Waldo June 30, Waldo County were nipped by visiting Rockport Automotive 9-8.

Adam Carlsen (2 singles, run), Kevin Pierce (2 singles, RBI, run), Chris Hart (double, 2 runs), Taylor Hall (single, double, 2 RBIs, run), Billy Ray Denman (home run, 2 RBIs) paced Rockport Automotive.

Eric Peters went four innings on the hill for Waldo County, allowing seven hits and two walks, with two strikeouts. Berry went the final three frames, allowing one hit and two walks, while striking out one.

Taylor Gartley worked three innings for Rockport Automotive, allowing five hits and three walks, while striking out four. Billy Ray Denman then allowed two hits and three walks, with three strikeouts over two innings of work, while Pierce struck out two over the final two innings.

Waldo County also played a doubleheader against Lisbon June 27 at Waldo, dropping the first game by a 3-1 score and gaining redemption with a 12-0 drubbing in game two.

In game one, Berry (single) had the lone hit for Waldo County, while Carter (2 singles), Pelletier (double), Laflamme (2 singles), Bennett (single) and Whitney (double) paced Lisbon’s offense.

Berry pitched for Waldo County, scattering seven hits and no walks, while striking out six. Frank Anjelico pitched for Lisbon, allowing one hit and one walk, while fanning seven batters.

In game two, Waldo County banged out 13 hits en route to a convincing victory over the visitors. Eric Peters, Nick Thiobodeau, Chris Brown, Josh Beal and Connor each had two singles for Waldo County, while T.J. Walton also tripled for his first hit of the season. Kulikowski and Simmons also had base hits for Waldo County.

Hall doubled in Lisbon’s lone hit of the game.

Peters went the distance for Waldo County, allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out eight batters. Carter and Whitney combined to pitch for Lisbon, surrendering 13 hits and one walk, with three strikeouts.
