Becky Whight is the featured artist at the downtown First Light Gallery and she will exhibit new works in a show called “Shimmer & Shadow” opening Friday, July 16 with a 5 to 8 p.m. reception during the Belfast Gallery Walk.

Whight’s latest paintings are in oil; she also exhibits several encaustic and acrylic works.  She said her inspiration comes from walks she takes everyday and that her woodland paintings express her strong connection with nature. She is fascinated by the way the light hits the leaves of the trees and with the shadows that form under the trees.

Whight has a long history of creating in various media such as stained glass and sculpted dolls.  She is primarily a studio painter who works and lives just outside of Ellsworth, where she and her husband designed and built an off-the-grid house. Her works also are exhibited at the Work of Hand Gallery in Winter Harbor and byDesign in Bangor.

Also on hand during the opening reception will be other First artists, who include Renate Klein, Marsha Townsend, Kay Sullivan, Lucinda Talbot, Dan Bennett and Leigh Osgood. The new show will be on display until the end of July.
