Three men were arrested in Searsport and charged with burglary and theft July 13 after a woman reportedly witnessed them stealing automobile parts from a Belfast residence. Police declined to specify the location of the burglary.

According to Detective Bryan Cunningham of the Belfast Police Department, a woman who knew that the residents were not at home at the time saw the three suspects Jeremy Murphy, 20, of Orland, Justin Chambers, 20, of Bucksport, and Jesse Davis, 18, of Bucksport break through a fenced-in area of the property, which Cunningham said included a house and a barn. The witness told police she then saw the male suspects walk behind a building and take several old starters and alternators that had been stacked up outside.

Cunningham said the woman, whose identity is being withheld, reported the incident to police at about 12:15 p.m. and followed the men by car as they drove to Searsport.

Officer Howard Dakin of the Belfast Police, assisted by Officer Eric Bonney of the Searsport Police Department, responded to the call and arrested the three men around 1 p.m. All three are charged with burglary and theft. Chambers and Murphy are also charged with violating conditions of release.
