July 14 marked reporter Irene Yadao’s last day working for VillageSoup. Irene has been with us since April, when reporter Kim Lincoln went on maternity leave (Kim is expected to return the first week of August).

As Irene leaves us, we want to take a moment to thank her for the great work that she has done in the too-short time that she has been part of our news team. She hit the ground running, producing quality feature articles on two missing men from Waldo County — Jeremy Alex and Charles “Chuck” Springer — as well as community events such as the Cinderella Project’s prom dress giveaway.

Irene has also been covering the cops and courts beat during her time here in Belfast. Not the easiest beat for a new reporter to pick up, but Irene has done a terrific job at it. One police official wrote to us to commend Irene for her dedication to getting the story right, additionally describing her as “very personable,” “a pleasure to deal with” and “truly an asset.”

“We look forward to seeing her every day,” the person told us.

We agree with everything they said about Irene, and only wish that her time with us could have been longer. We’ve enjoyed counting her as one of our colleagues, and we wish her the best of luck as she moves on.
