This was a special year for the Hodgkins family, children of Ralph and Angie, as July 11 marked the 25th year of their family reunion at Belfast City Park.

The reunions started the year their brother Ralph Jr. passed away. He would have treasured this, as he always loved getting together with family. So it was decided that the Hodgkinses would have a family reunion at the park as a tribute to him and they have done so every year since then.

Since the start of the reunions, the Hodgkinses have lost their oldest brother, Donald; a sister, Charlotte; and another brother, Jim. There were also two other children who passed away before the reunions began; a brother, Wallace, and a sister, Helen.

Out of 14 children, there are eight still living: Bud and Harold (oldest and youngest), both of Rockport, Ellen of Maryland, Betty and Phyllis of Windsor, Ruby of Waldoboro, Daisy of Augusta and Charles, “Doc” of Jefferson.

There are always many activities at the park for everyone — swimming, tennis, horseshoes and, of course, the ball field, where they always hold a ball game. Anyone is able to join in the game and all watching the game are invited to participate.

They had a great day together, reminiscing with family and friends and enjoying each other’s company. Lots of food and fun was enjoyed by all.

Family came from as far away as Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
