On July 19, Timber Frame Solutions of Thorndike, along with some local support, began erecting the frame for the Searsmont Historical Society’s barn. The frame construction is estimated to be complete in three weeks. On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7-8, a barn-raising is planned, where boards will be applied to the roof and sides of the barn.

Volunteers are needed for the barn-raising; those who are interested are invited to bring their tools and sawhorses and join in at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning for an assignment. There will be plenty of coffee and doughnuts in the morning and lunch and beverages will be served — all free for the volunteers. More than 82 percent of the funds have now been raised for the barn.

To donate to the barn fund, call 342-3427 or visit the Searsmont Historical Society during open hours on Tuesday 4-7 p.m. or Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
