After Monday night’s showdown between Rockland and Waldo County, the District 2 Little League 11- and 12-year-old baseball all-star championship game is set.

Rockland (2-1) used a balanced offensive attack and a strong pitching performance from Keenan Hendricks to pull out a 7-0 victory over Waldo County (1-2). Rockland’s only loss of the double-elimination tourney came 4-0 to Waldo County last week.

The July 19 victory pits Rockland against Camden-Rockport (2-0) for the District 2 championship Tuesday, July 20 at 5:30 p.m. at E. Allen Gordon Field in Rockland. Should Rockland, playing out of the loser’s bracket prevail Tuesday, a winner-take-all district championship game will be Wednesday, July 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the same field.

On July 19, Hendricks went 5 2/3 innings for Rockland, allowing three hits, a walk and hit a batter, with 11 strikeouts. Jacob Bartlett retired the lone batter he faced in the sixth inning. Nathan Wren and Mikey Hustus took the mound for Waldo County, giving up eight hits, with nine strikeouts.

For Rockland, Zach Roman (single, run), Nick Mazurek (home run), Hendricks (single, double, 2 runs), Noah Slivinsky (3 singles, RBI, run), Zeke Hamlin (RBI, run) and Thomas Curtis (single, RBI, run) keyed the win.

For Waldo County, Jake Black (double), Wren (single) and Troy Reynolds (single) contributed offensively.

Rockland scored a run in the second inning, one in the fourth and exploded for five runs in the fifth to pull away.
