The Downeast Brass Quintet will present the first of two free Sunday Concerts on the Common for 2010 on Sunday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m.

Downeast Brass is comprised of five highly experienced musicians from southern and central Maine who enjoy playing a wide range of styles, from classical to Dixieland. They have performed at private parties at the Governor’s mansion in Augusta; at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, N.H.; the famous Moxie Parade; and Gov. Baldacci’s inauguration ceremony, among many other appearances. The band has entertained audiences throughout New England on the concert stage, at weddings, festivals and on parade. Downeast Brass has a reputation for being one of New England’s best brass groups.

Dwight Tibbetts, the band’s founder and arranger, draws on the talents and skills of his colleagues with his musical arrangements. From Andy Forster’s pristine high trumpet tones to Mark Mumme’s full bass sonority, Since these musicians also are music educators, they seek to reach audiences of all ages with original and entertaining programming.

Everyone is invited to spread out on the lawn overlooking Belfast Harbor to enjoy a leisurely afternoon of musical entertainment. The summer concert series is sponsored by the Belfast Parks & Recreation Department.
