Jannette (Clark) Stone, 95, formerly of Searsport, died unexpectedly and peacefully at her home July 21, 2010. She was the wife of David William Stone, to whom she was married in December 1939, and who died Aug. 28, 1984.

Born in Frankfort Oct. 31, 1914, she was a daughter of Charles E. Sr. and Elizabeth (Gamble) Clark. At an early age she moved to Searsport, where she resided for most of her life until moving to Attleboro three years ago.

Mrs. Stone was a 1932 graduate of Searsport High School.

She was employed as a store manager for the former Searsport Drug Company for many years and later worked for the town of Searsport as a municipal clerk.

Since moving to Attleboro, Mrs. Stone has been a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and in Searsport she was a member of the Searsport Methodist Church.

Her favorite times were those spent creating lifelong memories with her cherished and beloved family. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family, she was most proud of her family members’ accomplishments. Not only was she “Gram” to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but she was the “adopted Gram” to many friends of the family and members of the community.

She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful card sender who never forgot the birthday of a family member or friend. A woman of independence and tireless energy, she was delivering Meals on Wheels in the Searsport area well into her 80s.

Among her favorite pastimes were gardening, playing cards, cooking for family and friends; she enjoyed the memories created at the family cottage on Moosehead Lake.

She leaves two daughters, Janice S. Hanson and her husband, Donald W. Hanson, with whom she resided in Attleboro, and Sharon S. Knight of Monroe; eight grandchildren and their families, Wayne Wardwell of Westport, Mass., Christopher Wardwell of Virginia Beach, Va., Kristin Tripp of Monroe, Todd Wardwell of Mashpee, Mass., David Knight of Dexter, Jeremy Wardwell of Attleboro, Mass., Jennifer Foster of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Karla Hanson of Ithaca, N.Y.; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Clark, wife of her late brother Maurice Clark, of Searsport, and Carolyn Clark, wife of her late brother Charles Clark Jr., also of Searsport; a brother-in-law, Clayton McLaughlin, husband of her late sister, Arlene McLaughlin, of Jupiter, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation Sunday, July 25, from 7-9 p.m. at the Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 26. The Rev. Steve Macleod will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Ave., North Attleboro, MA 02760 for the David W. and Jannette C. Stone Scholarship Foundation to benefit Searsport District High School graduates.
