The Belfast-Northport-Swanville Little League 9- and 10-year-old baseball team had a busy weekend, playing games in the double-elimination state tournament in Hermon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 23-25.

When the dust had settled, Belfast had played three close, competitive contests and finished with a win in three games — as well as fourth among the teams in the tourney.

Belfast lost 6-5 to Scarborough July 23, beat Coastal 5-4 July 24 and lost to Elliot 9-6 July 25.

On Sunday, Belfast, the District 2 champions, finished its state play with a 9-6 loss to District 5 Elliot.

Nathaniel Johnson, Zach Dyer and Dean Grass pitched for Belfast. Combined, the trio gave up 11 hits, five walks and hit a batter, with five strikeouts. Mitchell Frisbie and Grant Hartley pitched for Elliot and allowed nine hits and eight walks, with eight strikeouts.

For Belfast, Stan Sturgis (single), Skylar Perkins (2 singles, 2 runs), Garrett Hamlin (2 singles, run), Dyer (single), Grass (2 doubles, single), Johnson (2 runs) and Ricky Smith (run) contributed offensively.

For Elliot, Brock Belanger (single, 2 runs), Frisbie (triple, run), Hartley (single, run), Sean O’Donnell (single, run), Ben Chasse (single, run), Dalton Wing (2 singles, double, run), Jared Rubein (single, run), Evan Cox (single, run) and Jalen Allison (single) keyed the win.

On Saturday, Belfast continued its state play with a 5-4 win over Coastal of Blue Hill.

Perkins and Sturgis pitched for Belfast and allowed six hits and eight walks, with 12 strikeouts. Bryce Harmon pitched over three innings for Coastal. The names of other Coastal pitchers were unavailable. All together, Coastal hurlers gave up 10 hits, three walks and hit a batter, with 10 strikeouts.

For Belfast, Sturgis (3 singles, double, 2 runs), Perkins (single), Hamlin (triple, run), Dyer (single, RBI, home run), Grass (single), Bartlett (single) and Smith (run) combined offensively to help the Waldo County-based squad win.

For Coastal, Tyler Schildroth (single, run), Harmon (single, double, run) Stefan Simmons (single, run) and Trent Williamson (double, single, run) keyed the offense.

On Friday, Belfast started state play against Scarborough with a close 6-5 loss.

Hamlin, Sturgis and Perkins pitched for Belfast. Combined, the three gave up five hits and four walks, with four strikeouts. Morgan Pratt, Alex Dubeki, Glade Fredenburg and Connor Kelley pitched for the winners. The group allowed eight hits and a walk, with six strikeouts.

For Belfast, Sturgis (triple, run), Perkins (run), Hamlin (double, single, 2 runs), Dyer (2 singles), Grass (single, run), Rudi Schnetzer (single) and Johnson (single) contributed to the offense.

For Scarborough, Pratt (single), Jared Brooks (single), Kelley (run), Fredenburg (single, 3 runs), Owen Garrard (single, 2 runs) and Jarred Greenleaf (single) keyed the win.
