Anthony L. (A.J.) Chasse II of Northport recently received the second annual Northport Golf Club college scholarship.

“We just felt he was the most deserving applicant,” said Phil Bowen, chairman of the scholarship committee at the club. “He stood out over the others in our opinion.”

According to Bowen, the $500 scholarship was presented to Chasse because he is “very persistent and ambitious.”

To make the decision the scholarship committee takes into consideration the student’s dedication to golf, skill and academic devotion. The committee also accepts the recommendations of high school coaches and counselors.

The winner of the scholarship must be a resident of Waldo County, be a member of the Northport Golf Club and be accepted into a college.

Chasse, a member of the 2010 Belfast Area High School golf team, plans to attend Husson University in Bangor this fall.

The money for the scholarship is raised at the Midwinter Fling in Belfast where there is a potluck and an auction to raise funds for various causes at the golf club.

Doug Martens was the first winner of the Northport Golf Club scholarship in 2009.
