The Belfast Police Department is investigating one case of a vehicle’s being stolen and another of a car’s being broken into on the city’s waterfront.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Aug. 14, police received a complaint of a speeding vehicle on outer High Street, which resulted in a crash, according to Detective Bryan Cunningham.

Following the crash, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is owned by Thorndike woman, was located near the waterfront with damage to both passenger-side tires, he said.

Later that same morning, a couple who had spent the night on a boat in the harbor reported that their car, which was parked behind the Lookout Bar & Grill, had been burglarized. A backpack containing a laptop computer, headphones and other personal items was missing.

Cunningham said the two cases are related and the investigation continues.
