Conditions were perfect on a sunny Saturday morning in Waldo County as the Belfast Harbor Festival 5-Kilometer Road Race went off without a hitch with more than 100 runners taking part in the event.

The course began on Commercial Street near the Belfast Boathouse before circling back down Commercial Street and along Penobscot Bay and across the footbridge. The runners then circled back and finished at the boathouse.

Jenna Krajewski of China was the winner of the 3.1-mile race, crossing the finish line in an impressive 17 minutes and 35 seconds. She finished 10 seconds ahead of the field, with Todd Gagnon placing second in 17:45.

It is rare for a woman to finish first overall in a 5K, especially one with more than 100 participants. Plus, Krajewski’s time was as fast as many men’s winning times in some Midcoast 5K races.

The race was run in conjunction with the annual Belfast Harbor Festival, which is a weekend-long celebration that featured different events, races and challenges.
