Pearl (Townsend) Miliano, 93, died Friday, August 20, 2010. Surrounded by family and friends, she passed peacefully after a short illness. Pearl was predeceased by her husband, Achille “Al” Miliano, in 1988.

She was born in 1917 in Eastport to Edwin and Nellie (Hayden) Townsend. She was the last surviving of their 10 children.

A devout Catholic, Pearl was a member of St. Francis of Assisi parish in Belfast for more than 53 years, where her sons and grandsons were altar boys.

For more than 20 years Pearl was a part of downtown Searsport, driving and walking around town. She loved to watch the activities around the Steamboat Wharf and often visited there in the afternoons. An avid reader, Pearl enjoyed being part of the Carver Memorial library and read almost every book there. Pearl also enjoyed many lunches with the “Roundabouts” of the Searsport Congregational Church.

Pearl is survived by two sons, Rocky and his “WWW,” Yvonne, of Vancouver, Wash., and Michael of Searsport; a daughter, Betty, and her partner, Don, of Belfast; a special granddaughter, Autumn, and her husband, Gerard; six grandsons, Christopher, Trevor, Max, Evan, Blake and Nick; and great-grand-twins Jacob and Jennifer, her recently re-acquainted great-granddaughter, Madison, and Camas, Logan and Balian; many nieces and nephews, with special attention paid to her by nephews Michael Romano and his wife, JoAnne, of Pacifica, Calif., and Shirl Penney and his wife, MaryAnn, of New York.

Pearl had many friends in her lifetime, but there were two very special friends who showed her unconditional love, true friendship and gave her the priceless gift of their time, Wendy Wood and Shirley Murphy. Pearl, along with the rest of her family, was truly blessed to have had these very special ladies enter her life. They are a true blessing from God and second to none.

A special woman who touched everyone she came in contact with, Pearl was blessed with the unique ability to see only good in all people and never had a bad word to say about anyone.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 81 Court St., Belfast. Friends are welcome. Pearl will be laid to rest beside her husband and many other family members in Bayside Cemetery in Eastport at noon Thursday, Aug. 26. Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home 31 W. Main St. Searsport.
