The Belfast Street Party that was rained out last week is a “go” for tonight, Monday, Aug. 23, according to an e-mail sent out this morning by one of the event’s organizers, Mike Hurley.

The event is slated to take place on High Street, between Main and Market streets, from 5 to 11 p.m. That section of High Street will be closed after 3 p.m..

Amusements planned for the street party include a climbing wall, a “Rat Race” inflated obstacle course, a dunk tank and a Velcro wall.

Funk band Sistalicious, a highlight of last year’s Street Party, is scheduled to appear again, joined by the Willy Kelly Band and The 220s. Food vendors and assorted street performers complete the bill.

Hurley estimated that the 2009 Street Party brought a couple thousand people into downtown Belfast on a Monday night last August. According to Hurley, many would have stayed longer if they’d had a place to sit down.

The theme for this year’s party: “bring a chair.”
