The harness racing infield on the Union Fairgrounds heated up again as the second demolition derby took place Aug. 24.

As the daylight dwindled, 19 drivers took to the pit blockaded by cement slabs, to tough it out and win the honor of top driver. This derby included cars, vans and trucks — both domestic and imported.

The winner of the first feature won $125 and the winner of the second received $150. Also, each runner-up in the features won $50. Additionally, each regular heat winner won $50, while the runners-up won $25.

Deputy Mark Tibbetts of the Knox County Sherrif’s Department won the raffle and a ride in the fitting Dukes of Hazzard-themed Hazzard County sheriff’s car. Thanks to the raffle, $225 was raised for the March of Dimes.
