A Dixmont man was arrested after police say he confessed to sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl in June, and he will likely face additional charges both here and in Penobscot County as a result.

Alfred Seekins, 49, was arrested Sept. 2 on two charges of gross sexual assault against the child. Seekins has since been released from custody after posting bail.

Detective Jason Bosco of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said the initial complaint came in the form of a Department of Health and Human Services referral.

Bosco interviewed the alleged victim, who explained the nature of the abuse. Bosco then interviewed Seekins, at which time Seekins reportedly confessed to the allegations.

Seekins is not a direct relative of the victim.

Bosco said more charges against Seekins are expected when the case is presented before grand juries in both Waldo and Penobscot counties. Seekins faces charges in both counties, Bosco said, because some of the alleged abuse took place in Brooks, while other incidents allegedly occurred in Penobscot County.

Seekins has no prior criminal history, Bosco said.

During the interview, Bosco said Seekins not only admitted to the victim’s allegations but that he appeared to be sorry.

“He was remorseful,” said Bosco.

Seekins is scheduled to appear at Waldo County Superior Court Thursday, Oct. 28.
