A local father and son reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle accident on Route 1 the evening of Sept. 7.

The accident occurred at about 7:40 p.m., just beyond Perry’s Nut House on Route 1.

Police reported that the driver, 22-year-old Adam Munson of Belfast, was headed south in a 2002 Dodge sedan when he either blacked out or fell asleep at the wheel. According to the accident report, the vehicle veered off the road, struck a curb and then hit a Central Maine Power utility pole. The pole broke from the impact, and the vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Belfast police, fire and ambulance personnel responded to the scene. Both Adam Munson and his passenger, Stanley Munson, whom police identified as Adam Munson’s father, were transported to Waldo County General Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police estimated that the Dodge sustained damages of about $4,000.
